PREPARATIONS:
- Alleviate fatigue and increase milk secretion of lactating mothers- Cut up a chicken and remove the skin; pat dry with a paper towel; heat and lightly oil a fry pan; drop chicken cubes into the pan, sitrring constantly; add a little vegetable oil and 5 slices fresh ginger and continue to stir-fry for a while. Add 1 cup water and 1 cup rice wine; continue to cook for about 20 minutes; add more rice wine if desired. Eat at meals.[2]
- Relieve neurasthenia and forgetfulness- Cut up a chicken and remove the skin; wash chicken cubes (cut up chicken meat) with rice wine and place the cubes in a fry pan; stire-fry until dried. Steam the chicken cubes with 20 g longans for 3 hours until reduced to half a cup of pure chicken and longan soup. Drin the strained soup (without eating the chiken or longan). This is an expensive recipe; dried longs are available in most Chinese food shops.[2]




鸡内金   Jī nèi jīn- "Chicken inner gold"   Dried gizzard epithelium/lining    
The gizzard is a bird stomach which is below the crop, constructed of thick muscular walls is used for grinding up food, often aided by particles of stone or grit.

鸡蛋 Jī dàn  Chicken egg

1. Dry cough, hoarseness.[2]
2. Pink eyes sore throat, hyperactivity.[2]
3. Diarrhea.[2]
4. Burns.[2]
PREPARATIONS: Egg may be eated fresh or mixed with hot water; or use a mixture of egg white and yolk for external applications.[2]
- Heart burn in pregnant women- Break an egg into a cup and mix with a few teaspoonfuls rice wine and drink it.[2]
- Sharpen vision and correct blurred vision- Boil 20 chicken eggs in their shells until fully cooked. Boil the eggs again in water with 500 g black soybeans for 2-3 hours until the eggs are thoroughly mixed and become black; remove and discard the black soybeans. Store the eggs in a container until needed. Peel the eggs and eat 2-3 warm eggs each time, once a day, for as long as necessary.[2]
Clinical report: For the treatment of neurodermatitis and psoriasis, sterilize 2 chicken eggs with alcohol and place in a jar slightly larger than the eggs; add vinegar to cover the eggs and seal; set aside for 7 days. Break the eggs and pour the egg white and egg yolk into another sterilized jar and seal the jar. Use a cotton ball to rub the egg on the affected region for 1-2 minutes each time, several times a day; the treatment should continue without interrruption. In general, scales begin to fall off after a number of treatments; severe itching either improves or stops completely. If treatment continues, then the focus of the skin ailment will gradually be reduced in size; but if treatment is interrupted at this point, symptoms will recur. The longer the history of symptoms, the longer the treatment needed. Amount the 12 cases of neurodermatitis treated, 9 cases recovered completely and 3 cases improved; amoung the 5 cases of psoriasis treated, 2 cases recovered completely and 3 cases improved.[2]
蛋清 Dàn qīng   Egg white    
Nature- cool   FLAVOR: Sweet
FUNCTIONS
1. Lubricate the Lung, benefit the throat, clear Toxic Heat.[1,2] Detoxifies.[2]
INDICATIONS
1. Sore throat, red eyes, cough, diarrhea.[2]
2. Malaria, swelling and pain due to Toxic Heat.[1]
3. External application- Burns.[1,2]
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Excessive consumption will disturb the Heart Qi.
PREPARATIONS:  Raw or cook, also for external application.[1]
- Protect the throat in professional singers- Boil a chicken egg and remove it from the water as soon as it starts to boil; make a hole in the shell and slowly suck the white through the hole to lubricate the throat, once a day, for 3 or 4 months to relieve throat, hoarseness, and loss of voice.[2]
- Burns and skin ulcers- Mix egg white with rice wine and use the mixture to wash the affected region. 2 or 3 times /day on the first day. In general a yellowish crust will form on the wound, within 6 to 15 hours; by this time the pain will decrease and the secretion of fluids either ceases or decreases.[2]
- Resume menstruation after childbirth- Mix egg white with 3 teaspoons rice vinegar and drink.[2]
Clinical report: For a treatment of burns, place a chicken egg in 75% alcohol and sterilize for 15 minutes; open 2 holes on 2 ends of the egg using a sterile instrument and let the egg white flow into a sterilized container. After debridement ( cut off blisters, if any), use a sterilized cotton ball to apply egg white to the burned areas for 2-3 times on the first day. In general, a yellowish crust will form on the wound, within 6-15 hours; by this time the pain will decrease and the secretion of fluids either ceases or decreases. If the crust forms incompletely, with cracks, apply egg white again until it forms properly and completely. If, however, suppuration occurs under the crust (mostly seen in third degree burns), cut the crust open and incise the pus thoroughly, and then apply egg white again. When burns involve a large area, a lamp may be used to maintain the desired temperature (25-31 0C). Among the 100 plus patients treated, the majority of patients with first degree and second degree burns (involving areas less than 10%) recovered wityh 10 days; the remaining patients recovered with 12-31 days. The majority of patients with first and second degree bruns (involving areas between 10-20%) recovered within 7-20 days while the minority recovered with 37-60 days. It takes long for patients to recover in cases of severe second and third degree burns with areas over 30% and complications.[2]
A report on treatment of infections on the body surface shows that egg white relieves pain, heals inflammation, and prevents suppuration by external applications; and in case of supporated regions, egg white is found to control inflammation and localize it. Amoung the 36 cases treated, the patients with smaller areas infected recovered within a single application; the patients with larger areas recovered within 3-4 applications. The method of application is similar to the one used in burns.[2]
A clinical report on the treatment of cervical erosion indicated the method of application is similar to burns. use a cotton ball to apply egg white to the erosive areas and then push the cottn ball filled with egg white into the cervix to the removed next day. Each treatment program lasts 3-5 ddays; a second program continues if no results are obtained, and treatment stops during the menstruation period. Among the 32 cases treates, 18 cases recovered and 7 cases improved with 7 cases interrupted. It is indicate that those with bleeding show best results; in addition, the 7 cases treated for cervicitis and vaginitis (developed after childbirth) recovered completely[2].
A clinical report on the treatment of otitis media purulenta shows that a mixture of equal quantities of egg white and sesame oil produce satisfactory results when used as ear drops.[2]


蛋黄 Dàn huáng  Egg yolk

蛋黄油 Dàn huáng yóu  Egg yolk oil
Preparation of egg yolk oil- Boil about 5-10 eggs until hard- cooked. Remove the yolks and mash them thoroughly. Fry the yolks in a pan over high heat, sitrring constantly, until they gradually turn very dark and close to black, as if the oil is about to flow out; use a clean cloth to wrap the yolks and squeeze out the oil. Apply the oil to burns.[2]
- Sterilized egg yolk oil been shown to be effective on burns.[2] To make egg-yolk oil, boil about 5-10 eggs until hard-cooked. Remove the yolks nad mash them thoroughly. Fry the yolks in a pan over high heat, stirring constantly, until they gradually turn very dark and close to black. When the oil is about to flow out; use a clean cloth to wrap the yolk and squeeze out the oil. Apply the oil to burns.[2]
Clinical report: For treatment of burns use egg-yolk oil after filtration and high-pressure sterilization. Apply the oil to the areas of burns after debridement; exposure is preferred. In more than 100 cases treated for first and second degree burns with small and medium areas, all of them showed good results and no secondary infections occurred. After application of egg-yolk oil, the patient feel cool with decreased pain and effusion of fluids and quicker crusting (which falls by itself) with either no scars or only abscure scars.[2]
Report on the treatment of varicose ulcer (stasis ulcer); use the same method as in burns to extract the egg-yolk oil; clean up the affected areas and then apply flat cotton bandage soaked in the oil to the affected region; change the dressing every other day or once every 3 days until recovery.


凤凰衣 Fèng huáng yī- "Phoenix bird clothes"   Dried membranes of eggs

FUNCTIONS

INDICATIONS
1. Chronic cough, hoarseness.[1]
PREPARATIONS:  Dried membranes 1.5-2.5 g.[1]


鸡蛋壳 Jī dàn ké  Chicken Egg shell   
FUNCTIONS
1. Checks gastic acid. Arrests bleeding.[2]
INDICATIONS
1. Stomachache, gastritis. Rickets in children.[2]
2. Various types of bleeding. Ceruminosis (excesive buildup of earwax).[2]

PREPARATIONS:
- Relieve upset stomach- Crush an eggshell into powder; dissolve 7 g of the powder in rice wine. Drink this amount each time, twice a day.[2]
- Excessive gastric acid, and duodenal ulcers- Bake eggshell until dried and crush into powder (the finer the better). Take 4 g each time with warm water before meals, 3 times a day.[2]
- Relieve gastric spasms- Break 13 large chicken eggs and mix thoroughly; add 500 g rack sugar and 500 g rice wine; boil until charred and yellowish. Eat a large spoonful each time before meals, 3 times a day.[2]
- Coughing up blood, vomiting blood, nosebleed, and discharge of blood from anus, apply 6 g of the fine powder with salt and vitamin C. Administer orally 3 times a day for 2 to 7 days.[2]
- Allergic skin rash, urticaria, bronchial asthma, excessive stomach acid, and bad breath- Relieves these by taking the powder dissolved in water 2 g each time, 3 times/day.[2]
Clinical report:
A clinical report on the tratment of malnutrition in children (56 cases) and rickets (139 cases) and twitching of hands and feet (10 cases) shows that all except 9 bases of chronic indigestion recovered completely with 20 days to 3 months. The treatment: Wash an eggshell and dry it throughly; grind it into powder and seive it (the finer the better); administer 0.5 g each time to a 1 years old child, 1 g for children up to 2 years old, twice a day.[2]
Clinical report:
Various kinds of bleeding: Simply apply the powder ( as made above) to the affected areas with standard precautions of sterilization; the 600 cases treated for traumatic bleeding by theis method did not develop suppuration.[2]
- For the trement of coughing up blood, vomiting blood, nosebleed, and discharge of blood from anus, apply 6 g of the fine powder with some salt and vitamin C. Administer orally 3 times a day for 2-7 days. It is also reported that taking the powder dissolved in water (2 g each time, 3 times a day) relieves allergic skin rash, urticaria, bronchial asthma, excessive stomach acid, and bad breath.[2]
