FUNCTIONS- A common herb for stomach/lung bleeding.[3]

ACTIONS

INDICATIONS
1. Hemoptysis in tuberculosis.[1] Hemoptysis in silicosis.[1]
2. Gastric and duodenal ulcer bleeding.[1]
3. Traumatic injuries, abscessed swellings, cracked skin of hands and feet.[1]
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Overuse can cause fainting, headache and nausea.  It temporarily decreases the white blood cell count.[3] Incompatable with Wu tou or Fu zi.[3]
PREPARATIONS:  Decoction. Stem tuber 3-9 g for each dose, or crushed into powder for taking internally.[1] Root- only the part under ground.[3]
 Tuber 6-15g.[2,3]

- Dry skin with cracks- add herb to sesame oil and rub on area.[3]
- Dilates bronchioles and resolves phlegm with blood streaks- Drink tea 3 times a day to cool upper Heat and stop bleeding.[3]


HABITAT: Grows wild in sandy soil among grassy patches on cool mountain slopes.
DESCRIPTION: Perennial herb. Stem tuber; ovate or cylindrical, highty sticky. Pseudo-bulbs; flat. Leaves; basally alternate, broadly lanceolate, apexes long-acute, clasped by tubular ochrea to stem in layers, margins intact, parallel venation. Flowers; in late spring, reddish-purple or yellowish-white, forming a capitulum inflorescence. Fruit; a tubular capsule, slightly pointed at both ends.
