FUNCTIONS
Group: Regulate Qi, Calm Spirit
1. Calms the Rebellious ascent of Liver Qi, promotes circulation of Liver Qi and Blood, Extinguishes Liver Wind.
INDICATIONS
1. Rebellious Liver Qi attacking the Spleen and counterflowering upward:
Restlessness, irritability, poor sleep, dream distrubed sleep, insomnia, night terrors, headache, discomfort of the chest and intercostal area, nausea, sighing, fatigue, belching, acid regurgitation, abdominal distention, constipation, T- normal P- wiry which may also be thready and rapid
APPLICATIONS: Premenstural syndrome, stress, depression, neurosis, gastroduodenal ulcers, menopausal syndrome, hysteria, insomnia, night terrors.

Bupleurum chinensis- 柴胡 Chái húBupleurum root
Poria cocos茯苓 Fú líng- Hoelen wood fungus
Atractylodes macrocephala 白术 Bái zhú- White Atractylodes
GOU TENG- Uncaria rhynophylla
Angelica polymorpha- 当归 Dāng guī- Angelica
Ligusticum chuanxiong川芎 Chuān xiōng- Szechuan Lovage Root, Cnidium
Glycyrrhiza uralensis- 甘草 Gān cǎo- Chinese Licorice
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Yin Deficiency, Excess patterns
COMMENTS: This formula was originally designed for children to treat internal Wind due to Deficiency Heat in the Liver with spasms or seizures. It is particularly useful in treating insomnia with terrifying nightmares due to the Liver Qi attacking the Spleen and rebelling upward.
