Each full stop after a sentence indicates one reference. So if there are for instance 4 full stops after a sentence....- 4 references have made that statement.
The references are written in abreviated form at the end of each herb. For an explanation of these abreviations, check the bibliography link from the home page.

The spelling is identical to the Tabers Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary. It is thought by the author that spelling of words such as "pharmacopoeia", and "haematuria" adds unnecessary complications,  while "pharmacopea," and "hematuria,"  are simpler, with no loss of clarity or pronunciation indicators.
