Heart Qi Xu
Causes: Chronic illness, Lung Qi Xu. Profuse perspiration weakens Heart Qi. Emotions- particularly excessive joy fear or sadness.
Signs: Facial pallor.. Palpitations. Shortness of Breath- especially on exertion.. Spontaneous perspiration intensified by exertion.. Symptoms worse after exertion or when overtired. Causes:

Causes:
Excesses of the Five Emotions transform into Fire and damage Yin.  Febrile disease consumes Yin. Ki Yin Xu fails to nourish Ht Yin.
Signs: Palpitations..  Easily startled. Insomnia. Irritability. Restlessness. Anxiety. Much dreaming.  Poor memory. Low grade fever.. Night sweats.. Malar flush. Five hearts hot- palms, soles and centre of chest.. Dry mouth. T- dry red. P- thin rapid.

Heart Fire Flaring up
Cause:
Liver fire flaring. Perverse energy penetrated internally and transforms to fire. Excessive hot/pungent  or bitter food affects Ht. Excessive or inappropriate herbal remedies with aq Warm reinforcing quality generates Fire. Ki Yin Xu.
Signs: Restlessness. Irritability. Irascibility. Ulceration, erosion and pain of mouth and tongue.. Thirst with desire for cold drinks. Feeling of heat.., and disturbance in Heart. Insomnia. Flushed face.. Bitter taste in mouth. Dark urine. Pain on urination. T- Red body especially with red tip, central crack and thin yellow coat. P- full, rapid.

Phlegm Fire disturbs Heart
Causes: Emotional turmoil, depression, frustration or obsession creates Qi stagnation which leads to
Phlegm Fire.
Signs: Irritability.. Insomnia.. Restlessness. Bitter taste in mouth..Palpitations.  Much dreaming. Easily startled. Feelings of heat, flushed red face. Thirst. Dark Urine. Dysuria. Hematuria. Mouth and tongue ulcers.
In severe cases: Incoherent speech. Crying and laughing without reason. Manic agitation with irrational behaviour. 
T- Red,especially with red tip, central fissure. Thin yellow coat. P- Full rapid.
Associated western conditions: Manic psychosis. Schizophrenia. Epilepsy, Neurosis.

Phlegm Obstructs Heart Orifice
Causes:
In a pre-existing Phlegm condition, Liver Yang transforms into Wind and generates Heat.  Signs:: Sudden collapse with loss of consciousness. Lockjaw, trismus. both fists clenched. Retention of urine, constipation. Stiffnes and spasm of limbs. Red face. Body feels hot. Coarse breathing. Bad breath. Restless, involuntary movements. T- Yellow greasy coating. P- Wiry, slippery and rapid.
Associated western conditions: Acute cerebrovascular accident. 
Treatment: Clear Phlegm & open the Orifice.

Stagnation of Heart Blood
Causes: Ht Qi Xu or Ht Yang Xu leads to an inadequacy of blood circulation allowing blood to stagnate. Emotional factors causing Qi to stagnate leading to Blood stagnation. Phlegm accumulates in chest and obstruct circulation of Blood. Overword of fatue impairs blood circulation. Invasion of External Cold obstructs circulation of Blood.
Signs: Palpitations. Stabbing pain in anterior region over Heart. Suffocating sensation in chest. Drawing pain down internal aspect of  left arm. Cold limbs. Cyanosis of lips and nails.
